About the circuit
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a motorsport racing circuit in Montmeló, north of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. Since its opening in September 1991, the circuit has hosted various races, including the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, which has been held at the track since 1991. The Catalan Grand Prix for the FIM Motorcycle World Championship is also held here every year.
The track serves as a popular test track for Formula 1 and motorcycle teams due to the mild temperatures in winter and spring, making it ideal for pre-season preparation. During the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, the 100 km team time trial in cycling took place here. In the spring of 2004, Loris Capirossi set a speed record of 347.4 km/h on the Ducati Desmosedici GP4 during pre-season test drives on the start-finish straight, which was only beaten by 1.9 km/h in 2009 by Dani Pedrosa in Mugello.
