About the circuit

The Automotodrom Brno, also known as the Masaryk Ring or Masarykův okruh, is a motorsport racing circuit on the western outskirts of Brno, Czech Republic. Between 1985 and 1987 the route was rebuilt in the Podkomorské lesy forest area between Ostrovačice and Žebětín. The operating company, Automotodrom Brno AG, has been responsible for the race track since 1994.

The Masaryk Ring was originally used for the first time in 1930 and was used until 1986. The original route consisted of public roads closed for racing and spanned more than 29 kilometers. Due to stricter safety regulations, the route has been shortened to just under eleven kilometers over the years. In the 1980s, this course no longer met modern safety requirements, which led to the decision to build a permanent race track from 1985.

Today's Automotodrom, which is located about ten kilometers from the pit facilities of the old ring, was opened in June 1987 and is located within the old street circuit. The track has been the venue for the Czech Grand Prix since 1987 (the Czechoslovak Grand Prix until 1991). In addition, races from the Supersport and Superbike World Championships as well as the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) are held annually at the Automotodrom.
