About the circuit

The Automotodrom Grobnik is a motorsport race track near the port city of Rijeka in northwest Croatia. With a length of 4,168 meters, including 2,017 meters in a total of 18 corners and a height difference of 22 meters, the track meets the regulations of the FIA and FIM. It was built in 1977 and completed within five months of construction.

Originally, the Automotodrom Grobnik was created to host the Yugoslavian Grand Prix of the Motorcycle World Championship. This was in response to an accident in 1977 on the previous Preluk track in Opatija, which resulted in two deaths and 19 injuries, resulting in the track being removed from the World Cup calendar. Between 1978 and 1990, the Yugoslavian Grand Prix took place 13 times at the Automotodrom Grobnik. Due to the Yugoslavian War, the Yugoslavian Grand Prix was discontinued in 1991.

Aside from regular races, the route is also used by private individuals who can drive there after registering. In addition, well-known automobile and motorcycle manufacturers such as Audi, Subaru, Suzuki and Aprilia use the Automotodrom Grobnik as a test track.
